THE ISLAND’S REOPENING!

THE ISLAND’S REOPENING!

The guided tour of the island winds through the age-old mulberries’ path, large buildings (such as the sixteenth-century Tezon Grande which still preserves some original writings and drawings on its walls), two water wells among which one bears the relief of a Venetian lion “in moleca” (XVI cent.), and ongoing archaeological excavations.
In the “Casello da Polvere Est” ( Eastern gunpowder tower – XVI cent.) there are some windows with ceramics, glasses, bone objects, coins, seals, historical models of Venetian ships together with documents and objects used on board.

A new exhibition presents the results of the anthropological investigations led on the “Campo Santo” area (that is the ancient cemetery) from 2006 to 2008, with scientific and didactic materials concerning anthropology, history of the health with particular reference to the pestilences that struck Venice.

Finally there is a external naturalistic route which skirts the surrounding walls and retraces the rounds of the soldiers allocated in the island between XIX and XX cent. This path is immersed in the typical lagoon environment and it is a special viewpoint over a unique fading reality.
